Wingfoil Racing Finals Beadnell Bay

September 6th 2025 - September 7th 2025

The King of the North the culmination of our wingfoil racing tour for 2025.

So the 3rd and final event of the BKSA Wingfoil racing nationals went off in the beautiful Beadnell Bay.

Hosted by KA Adventure sports

King of the North - Beadnell

The long journey North was rewarded on the Friday evening with a magical light wind session with the local crew from KA Adventures and hugo the wingfoil Champion. Getting familiar with the bay, reef layout and conditions was a joy before a meet up with many of the competitors in one of the local pubs for some grub and a catchup. The vibes were good, forecast promising, competitors and crew excited and the plan formed for a building wind on the Saturday.

SE winds provide a bumpier onshore direction not typical for Beadnell, but contestable if the wind strengthened enough, which it finally did by mid afternoon to allow 3 windward leeward races around the onshore course.

Arky, our seasoned race officer for the weekend providing clear guidelines and structure for all those competing from the first time to seasoned veterans.

The racecourse was also blessed with the Presence of local legend KEVIN ANDERSON from KA Adventures, who put his racing game face on…..even when crossing the line lying down in one abandoned race;-)

Two convincing wins for Hugo Dobrejivic were followed with a mildly casual start to the third race being denied for not crossing the line intime. This left the scores wide open overnight with Pete Jones, James Little and Ryder Rousseau in the mix with no discard counting yet.

Sat eve saw a typical great community vibe lead by the magnificent Martin Charlton BBQ skills combined with kev’s over ordering the beer tendencies providing a fab and all inclusive social finishing with FOC sticky toffee puddings from ‘the landing’ and an early night.

Sunday we awoke to a significant increase in sea state and wind, possibly more suitable to a kitesurf freestyle contest than wing racing. The AP flag was put up until 11.30 when the race crew devised a plan to utilise the sailing area in-between the reefs for a bump and jump beach start slalom 12 minute races which Hugo convincingly taking the win in all three races with a close contact between locals James Little and Pete Jones for the rest of the podium. Even legend Mike Birthday was seen on a foildrive beyond the reef braving the outside swell.

With 6 races and a mixture of moderate windward leeward and strong slalom, Beadnell provided a load of fun and challenge along with a fantastic display of northern hospitality and what the wonderful Northumberland beaches have to offer for all.
