April 2024 competing season started off with a fitting title \u00a0\u2018The Big Air Comp\u2019 hosted by Infinity kitesurfing school \/ shop for the first time at Greatstone Beach and what a Gr8 weekend it was. The group of volunteers brought to the table diverse skills in order for the event to happen.<\/div>\n

On the big day with an early start all the ground staff set to their roles preparing the competition area and zoning off the protected beach.\u00a0 BKSA experienced judges previously ranking pro champs George Dufty and Craig Smith gathered at the shop and opened with clear instructions and event running.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Starting with amateur men on Saturday, winds ranging from 15 to 22 Kts NNE, the men enjoyed the camaraderie of the event, pushing each other to the limits adapting with the dropping tides and fluctuating winds. Every extreme from unhooking, looping and even a tornado or two were executed, with a very impressive display. Winds started to ease in late afternoon leaving only the men\u2019s finals to be completed on the Sunday with stronger conditions.<\/div>\n

A barbecue was fired up Saturday early evening at the beach hosted by Infinity Kitesurfing School. Happy Campers, competitors and guests joined and reflected on the day with exciting talk of the Sundays forecast.<\/div>\n

Sunday morning start. With sunrise seen from most of the vans and the wind building, so was the enthusiasm of everyone to complete the competition.
\nOpening with the women\u2019s heat, tides were high and so were spirits. Winds increased quickly. Women, new and experienced competitors were flying high, they were pushing their skills in challenging conditions. The women displayed amazing courage and were buzzing from the experience. With Rosie looping her way into first position.The men\u2019s amateur finals was then rapped up. This was an impressive arial display of height, skills and diversity. It certainly had the crowds going, and Ed was stoked to get first position.<\/div>\n

\nThe winds continued to show off, recording \u00a0up to 33kts winds. This was the perfect timing for the men pro riders to take to the stage.
\n99% Youngbloods and our \u201cyoung at heart\u201d Jordan Hurst showed no fear, giving it their all with acrobatic crowd pleasers of enormous heights and rotations, which made you dizzy. Throwing some inverts and board off\u2019s, with contra and Kite loops a plenty, all with the display of style and finesse. Crowd pleasers for sure, and a great finale gaining Max Tullett first position.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The weekend was rounded off with the prize giving and presentations. With amazing prizes from Harlem Kitesurfing, Greatstone Kite Club, ION UK, Reedin Kitesurfing, I Love Camber Sands, BigAir Master UK, Top Banana Services and Core Kitesurfing.<\/p>\n

All in all a gr8 weekend at Gr8 Stone.\u00a0 Infinity kitesurfing school displays so much enthusiasm for the sport. When you go to Infinity you end up being part of their kitesurfing family and infected by their energy for the sport.<\/p>\n
